Fort Feral

Fort Feral

Rancho Providencia is home to more than 40 feral cats. Some are in enclosures, because they are seniors or have physical disabilities. Others roam free on the property and earn their keep by patrolling for mice and rats at the barns. These cats came from dangerous situations on the street, where they were saved from such circumstances as buildings that were being demolished and people who tried to poison them. TARA has given them a comfortable home at the ranch with two big meals a day, lots of mice to chase, and a safe space to sleep at night.

In our continuing war with the coyotes—which we are winning, hands-down—we have created an impenetrable fort where the feral cats can retreat, rest, and relax when coyotes are on the prowl. It has openings just big enough for felines to fit through, but small enough to leave canines out in the cold. Be in no doubt that this redoubt screams “Keep OUT!”
